This month is special for us - exactly seven years have passed since the first Trh-Piac-Markt.
In 2013, after signing rental contract, one of our main goals was to turn The Old Market Hall into an urban center offering food markets, cultural events for the citizens and tourists.
We started by creating our manifesto, the so-called „Code of the food markets“, where we decided, which farmer or producer we would like to support. In the beginning, markets only took place once a month. It was necessary to first gain the favor of both the sellers and visitors.
The Old Market Hall slowly began to revive. Apart from the renovations of the building itself, there had been renovation works happening also in the spaces on its perimeter, where various businesses began to operate. Nowadays, there are 9 businesses, which complete the atmosphere of The Old Market Hall as the place for meetings and leisure time.
For us, the market hall building is not just an interior space, we are also interested in the condition of its surrounding environment. In 2016, we co-founded the initiative Živé námestie (A Living Plaza). Based on the collected data, some quick wins have been implemented and the Capital City of Slovakia announced the architectural competition for the revitalization of SNP Square, Velvet Revolution Square and Kamenné Square - the biggest architectural competition in the history of Bratislava. The results of the international competitive dialogue will be known at the end of 2020.
7 years, specifically 1517 days of active use of the market hall building, has passed. And what's next? Next year we would like to do several innovations and improvements of the building operation - we are working on our own composting plant, year-round celebrations of the 111th birthday of this beautiful building, or on how to make the market hall building even more accessible.
Thanks to you, the Old Market Hall has come to life and became a living place in the true sense of the word. In addition to food markets, other market events are held there, such as Street Food Park, Beer Salon, Vegan Feast, Coffee Tea Chocolate Festival, Bratislava Book Exchange, Flea Market, Kid. Children's Shop up, Sashe in the Market and many more. The operational possibilities of the building have allowed us to organize other types of events as well - today you can go to the concert or conference.
