We try to apply this idea at Stará tržnica at every step. Whether it's composting organic waste, making diaries and notebooks from old posters at workshops during Saturday markets, or reusing waste wood in our workshop. During the markets, you will also find the Kolo (Bratislava Center for Reuse) stand, which temporarily collects old things for recycling. Even our residence, an apartment that we make available to various artists and experts for short-term internships, is furnished with things from Kolo. And at the same time, we create space for our visitors to get this opportunity as well. The best example are SWAP´s, of which you can find several types here.
Oasis
A good example is the Oasis space, which serves as an adoption center for plants. It is something similar to a dog rescue, only in this case we do not take care of pets, but house plants. This beautiful green space is completely filled with plants that we received from people.
These are plants that have already outgrown their original home, did not fit when moving, or there was simply no more room for them. In Oasis, they got a second chance and make the environment more pleasant for visitors during the Saturday markets or during various events that take place in this space. In addition, several times a year we organize a plant exchange (SWAP) in the Oasis, during which visitors can bring their plants to the Oasis, but also take some home with them. During these exchanges, we have prepared a lot of plants and cuttings, not only from the Oasis, but also various exotic rarities that we obtained from the Bratislava Botanical Garden just for this event.
Swap´s of clothes are also held in Oasis. We organize this event in cooperation with Nosene, where old things are given not only new life but also new design. Similar to the plant exchange, visitors can bring in their old unused pieces of clothing and take away others that interest them.
Book exchange
Lovers of books and art will also enjoy themselves here every Saturday. During the Saturday markets, the entire balcony belongs to the largest book secondhand in Slovakia. Besides books, you can find here also records, stamps, paintings and graphics, or magazines. You can search and discover book gems at this exchange, with up to 3,000 books on display every Saturday.
