Ólafur Arnalds - Viva Musica! festival 2019

Ólafur Arnalds - Viva Musica! festival 2019

A Classic from Iceland

Ólafur Arnalds is an enthusiastic experimenter and innovator, who loves to shift the boundaries of music. Undoubtedly one of the most original musicians of the present time, in his work he combines elements of (neo)classical music with sophisticated electronics. Not many people know that he began his musical journey as a drummer in a hardcore-metal band. He gained international attention with his debut album Eulogy for Evolution (2007). Further albums followed, also music created for films, and apart from solo projects there were many collaborative projects with various musicians, including Alice Sara Ott (The Chopin Project), Nils Frahm, and Janus Rasmussen (the minimalistico-experimental techno duo Kiasmos). In 2014 he received the prestigious BAFTA award for the music for the crticially-acclaimed British TV series, Broadchurch. In his most recent album re:member (2018, Mercury KX) he experiments with the new musical system Stratus integrated in two independently playing pianos, which together with the central piano, on which Arnalds plays, create unexpected harmonies and surprising musical interactions. Re:member is an album which leads the listener through a variety of moods, feelings and musical scenery, and absorbs one by its beauty. At Viva Musica! festival it will be heard in an exclusive Slovak premiere.
